We worked with the Business Sector Advocacy Challenge (BUSAC) Fund, to run a 1-year national advocacy action on the sustainable management of plastic waste and the scaling up of recycling facilities in Ghana. The project was aimed at advocating for a functional policy and programme of actions to tackle plastic waste and promote youth-led businesses in the waste management sector. The advocacy project included research, sensitization, media engagement, stakeholders’ forum and post dialogue activities. The Advocacy started with a research activity that lasted 3 to 4 months. The onfield research was conducted in 3 regions in Ghana namely Koforidua, Takoradi and Accra. The research activity was followed up with a stakeholder activity that was suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. When the COVID-19 lockdown was eased and restrictions lifted partially we held the stakeholder activity successfully in the Greater Accra and the Greater Kumasi regions. One of the key issue discussed at the workshops was the poor attitude of citizens towards waste management and the inefficiency of waste management operators in the country.
